Smithfield Casing and Sundries operate across much of the UK, stocking everything a butcher needs with the exception of meat and machinery. We specialise in providing top quality products with first class service whilst remaining competitively priced. For some purposes, we can offer budget alternatives where we deem it fit for purpose. Our range of products is so large and diverse that we also supply customers outside the meat trade.
While most suppliers are caught up in the faceless world of online sales, we like to get to know our customers and build relationships that stand the test of time – This is something we pride ourselves on and have done since our inception.
Our Story
Smithfield Casings, established in 1978 by Mike O’Hara just outside Smithfield Market. Mike previously worked for a large casings import/export business. When the opportunity to take on some domestic casings customers was presented, Mike took this and started adding to the range of products immediately.
As demand grew, Mike had to further expand his operations with more and more products, moving out of London to our current home in Welwyn Garden City Hertfordshire providing excellent transport links enabling a wider customer base. This growth and devotion to our customers continues to this day, and after 43 years in the meat trade, we still serve some of the very first customers Mike introduced to the business.
And that’s what we’re all about at Smithfield.
We’re a second generation, independent, family run business with loyal customers who we love to work with. The business is now run by John O’Hara from our two warehouses in Welwyn Garden City, Herts, and we manage all of the stock in these warehouses with the upmost care and attention.
This is to ensure that we have regular deliveries from all of our manufacturers, and when we are out of stock anything (which is extremely rare), we can still generally get what you need within the week.
What We Stock
We stock a huge range of well known brands and products within the butchery and meat industry.
We’ve forged relationships with some of the most popular and reputable brands over the decades, including Verstegen, MRC, Ripon Rusks, F. Dick and Victorinox. We nurture these relationships constantly, working closely with both the manufacturer and the end user for the best product and service available.
Not only this, but we also have our very own range of products such as the GC Gourmet Burger and sausage mixes, as well as EasySeal Vacuum Pouches.

It’s because of our dedication to our customers, our fantastic products and of course, our outstanding service, that we have the strong reputation we have fought hard to achieve.
And we’re proud of it.
Not only do we run our own fleet of large vans across Herts, Beds, Bucks, London, Surrey, Northants, Cambs, Essex, but we also work with well-chosen parcel couriers and pallet hauliers enabling next day delivery for the vast majority of our products to much of the UK.
We are loyal to our customers and our small, dedicated team means that you regularly engage with the same people when ordering with Smithfield.
We know all of our products inside out, as well as our customers, so whether it’s your “medium” vac bag from our range of 36 sizes or your skewers that are “1 tile wide”, we are confident that we can get you the correct product with the correct specifications to do the job.
